About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

We created the School Leadership Program to address leadership struggles in the education sector, especially among low-cost school leaders in Africa. While many school founders and administrators are deeply passionate about education, they often step into leadership roles without the necessary skills or support to run effective and sustainable institutions. As a result, many schools struggle with poor management practices, weak financial systems, and low staff connection with the mission and vision of the schools.
The School Leadership Program was developed as a direct response to these challenges. Our goal is to equip school leaders with the essential leadership and management skills they need to drive meaningful change within their schools and communities. The program focuses on real-world issues such as transformational leadership, financial management, safeguarding and safe school policies, fundraising, storytelling and ecosystem engagement, empowering participants to build resilient systems and lead with confidence.
By providing practical training, expert-led facilitation, and peer learning opportunities, the program helps leaders transform their schools into safe, inclusive, and high-performing learning environments. Ultimately, we believe that strong school leadership is key to improving learning outcomes, promoting equity, and giving every child, regardless of background, a chance to thrive.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, the School Leadership Program is a dynamic, practical learning experience that blends theory with real-world application. Participants attend structured virtual sessions, engage in practical workshops and case studies discussions, and take part in collaborative group projects that address real school leadership challenges. The curriculum covers key areas such as transformational leadership, stakeholder engagement, financial management, child safety and safeguarding, and school branding. Through peer learning and practical projects, school leaders not only strengthen their capacity but also gain a support network for continued growth. The program is designed to ensure that each participant walks away with practical tools, actionable strategies, and renewed confidence to lead schools that are effective, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of 21st-century learners.

How has it been spreading?

The program has been spreading through word of mouth, alumni referrals, and strategic partnerships with education networks, NGOs, and local authorities. Graduates who have experienced transformation in their schools often recommend the program to their peers. We also leverage social media, webinars, and education-focused events to raise awareness and reach a wider audience. As the need for effective school leadership grows, more school founders and administrators are turning to the program to gain the skills they need. This organic growth reflects the program’s strong impact and the urgent demand for leadership training across Nigeria’s education sector.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

If you’re interested in trying the program in your country, we are open to partnerships that promote shared learning and local impact. We understand that educational challenges often cut across borders, and leadership is generally a global need. That is why we welcome the opportunity to collaborate with organisations, education networks, and development partners who are passionate about transforming education in their communities.
We will provide full support with the curriculum, training materials, facilitator coaching, and ongoing guidance to help deliver the program effectively and sustainably.
We believe in co-creating solutions that empower school leaders to thrive. Through partnership, we can replicate the program’s proven impact, building a generation of school founders and administrators who are well-equipped to lead schools that are safe, sustainable, and centered on quality learning for every child.

Implementation steps

Design Thinking
Carry out a Design thinking approach where you EMPATHIZE with your targeted group, get to understand the root cause of the challenge they are going through, and connect with them in a deeper level. You do this by researching about the majority of this audience, observe their struggles and understand their need.
Define the Problem
Clearly define the problem after several observations, interviews and research about the targeted group. It is important to define the problem because it help you know what exactly you want to address.
IDEATE
generate different potential solutions with your team. In our case, we came up with solutions such as training educators, creating a network of educators in marginalized communities and then after realizing that the major challenge is with School Leadership, we came up with the idea of the School Leadership Program.
CREATE
We then came up with the solution of training the school leaders, we documented how we want to carry out this innovation, by designing the modules, find out how long it will take, design different projects to be carried and then we launched.
PILOT
Lastly, we piloted the prototype we have created to test if the solution was reasonable and bankable. we collaborated with other organizations in the ecosystem, derived the feedback that was helpful for a better implementation, and we launched the first Cohort.
