About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

In developed and capitalist countries like Japan (95%) and USA (85%) - large majority of students are enrolled in the Public schools.
In a socialist and developing country like India - this number is mere 50% and decreasing. For equity and development (and to prevent class divide) - the public education system in India has to improve and bulk of the students must go to government schools.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Vinoba app is the backbone of the program. It uses Technology & Behavior science technique to support & motivate teachers - to improve quality of education.

It solves - three basic problems:
1) Currently the circulars, TLM, training material are distributed by district officials on whatsapp. Teachers do not download it as it clogs their phone memory. Also it is difficult to search. Vinoba provides a platform to catalog and distribute such material at district level.

2) There are 2-5 teachers in most rural schools. They are isolated. Vinoba provides a platform to share & learn and run programs like reading, spoken english etc. It also helps in recognition by peers & administrators. Periodic recognition events such as Tea with collector, teacher conferences are organized. The criteria are objective & transparent.

3) Easy way to collect data & conduct practice tests at scale using OMR sheets. Teachers do not spend time in paper correction, marks compilation and duplicate data entry.

How has it been spreading?

The program was launched in Pune district in Apr 22. Since then it has been launched in 16 districts - 9 in Maharashtra and 7 in Chhattisgarh - with over 28 thd schools, over 90 thd teachers and impacting over 2.1 mln students.

We generally connect with the District collectors or CEO - and walk them through the program. Almost all of them have then demonstrated eagerness to launch it in their district.

So far it has spread by word of mouth. We are now planning to tie up with the state government - to launch the program in all the districts in the state.

If I want to try it, what should I do?
