Many families, despite being motivated to contribute to their children's education, do not have the time or skills to do so effectively. In addition, schools seek the support and involvement of their parents, but it is difficult to find spaces to do so due to implementation difficulties, high cost and/or lack of time.
To engage parents fruitfully in the teaching-learning process of their school-aged children, our team has created 1) Programa Motival a program for schools and 2) MwM a digital tool.
Since 2021, Programa Motival (School for Parents) helps parents motivate and cope with their children frustration through simple, high-impact activities on growth mindset, self-management, purpose and sense of belonging. The socio-emotional work is based on EMELab, a research lab from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. We conduct workshops for parents and send them activities, videos and tips directly to their mobile phones, allowing us to reach many families quickly and effectively. At the same time, we work with the school to strengthen parent-school collaboration.
This year we are developing MwM (mwm.meaning.cl) an app aiming to help teachers collaborate with parents in developing their students mathematical skills through step-by-step activities that connect math with daily life.
We have worked with 50 schools in 24 different locations throughout Chile. This has allowed us to reach more than 18,000 families and 20,000 students.
For next year we hope to impact 40,000 families through our service.
If you work at a school, Programa Motival will strengthen the capacities of the families at your educational community and thus boost your students learning.
Families will always/only contribute properly, if you help them to do so.
