I saw how children especially girls from low income backgrounds do suffer educational defect and marginalisation. I wanted to ensure that girls have all it takes to access quality education in other for them to understand their rights, improve their lives and create change in their families and communities.
I believe that when children are educated, everyone benefits and society thrives.
My innovation is a practical one as we identify the most underprivileged girls from low income backgrounds, provide them with essential school needs such as learning materials, sanitary pads and tuition fees. We go ahead to ensure that their learning spaces are safe, conducive and interactive while teachers are trained adequately to design gender friendly curriculum to achieve collaborative learning.
Furthermore, we set up monitoring and evaluation processes to check the progress of these girls in the course of their studies, provide mentoring programs for them to guide them in their future ambitions. There's also provision of after school lessons and summer classes to brush them up educationally.
Our main achievements through this project in the last 1-2 years is being able to recruit more girls into school who successfully completed their secondary school education and further their education thereby realising their dreams. Additionally, the rate of child marriages, molestation, gender based violence and domestic abuse as well as exploitation has drastically reduced and girls now have the ample apportunity to have access to inclusive quality education which has enabled them break gender bias and improve their lives, they now make their own decisions and also serve as advocates for other girls.
In the next 2-3 years, I hope to use this innovation to reach out to more underprivileged girls from low income backgrounds, empower them through education and improve their lives as well.
First be sure about your passion, be resilient and positive.
Secondly, draw up a plan, create awareness about your plan using media and words of mouth then do a field work by identifying and documenting low income households. Afterwhich, reach out to potential donors and sell your idea to them. Then, kick-start.
