We created this innovation to support the overall well-being of SEN students by combining Asana, Pranayam, and art. Our goal is to help them improve emotional awareness, self-esteem, and regulation through a creative, therapeutic blend of yoga and art-based practices tailored to their unique needs. We have also included breath work and meditation to calm them and overcome stress and anxiety.
In practice, our innovation combines Asanas, Pranayama, Dhyana, and art-based therapies in structured sessions tailored for learners with additional support needs. Asanas improve physical health and body awareness, Pranayama helps manage anxiety through breath control, and Dhyana supports emotional stability. Alongside, art and movement therapies encourage creative expression, building self-esteem and enhancing social behaviour. Each session is designed to engage multiple senses and brain areas, creating a supportive environment for students to express themselves, develop resilience, and connect with others. Applied to a different sample group, the program led to visible improvements in physical well-being, reduced anxiety levels, better emotional regulation, stronger self-worth, and more positive social interactions.
The pilot phase commenced with four students who undertook a self-regulated pre-assessment aligned with five key well-being parameters. Based on the initial findings, tailored intervention strategies were implemented, followed by a post-assessment to evaluate progress. The outcomes indicated significant improvements in attention span, self-esteem, confidence, social engagement, reduced anxiety levels, and enhanced physical well-being. Encouraged by these promising results, the approach was subsequently extended to a larger sample group, yielding similarly positive outcomes.
