About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

“We want students who have the courage to pursue their desires, to know what they really want,” he says. “That’s different from the traditional definition of top students. People who can think outside of the box need to have a lot of courage.”

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Xing Wei College was recently accredited by the Ministry of Education as the first Chinese liberal arts college. The school is now part of the higher education reform initiative. It has been given the mandate to continue the innovation started two years ago and to blaze a new trail in undergraduate education. “Liberal education prepares you for the rest of your life."

How has it been spreading?

Xing Wei is the only liberal arts college in China in which every student can participate in the creation of the school. Students develop their working skills through eight committees set up by the school that functions as real business units. From recruiting professors to choosing courses, students participate in eight committees that manage the school.
We believe that handing over the rights and freedoms of school management to students allows students to re-examine and think about why they learn, how to learn, grow, and live from a different perspective.

If I want to try it, what should I do?
