Imagine being asked to read long paragraphs and tested on them without ever getting the chance to learn the alphabet; or having to solve mathematical equations, without knowing numbers. That is the struggle of 50 million children in primary grades who are 2-3 class levels behind in terms of their language and arithmetic skills, which has been mentioned in the National Education Policy 2020.
ThinkZone Fellowship program trains youth to teach young children of their communities. The program uses a blended strategy of accessible digital tools & instructor-led offline support to train youth on pedagogy, communication, technology usage, & personal development. During the fellowship, the youth implement foundational literacy & numeracy (FLN) learning camps for children using technology & home-based resources. The youth utilize the ThinkZone mobile application which can also run without internet connectivity. The activity-based teaching content present on the app act as a guide they can follow to engage children. The platform also provides youth to manage children’s records, evaluate & track learning goals and capture real-time data. The youth access the training content via the app to continuously up-skill themselves which leads to better job opportunities in the future. Trained coaches utilize the ThinkZone Support App to continuously support youth & track their progress.
We have already up-skilled 3176 educators and have positively impacted the learning of 30262 children. ThinkZone plans to formally partner with the Govt. of Odisha to scale our innovation in the entire state of Odisha in the next 2 years. We plan to have technical partnerships with more local/grassroots-based organizations and provide them with adequate technology and program support for deploying our innovation. We are making sure that our innovation can reach all children irrespective of socioeconomic backgrounds by actively looking at government partnerships and then empowering the appropriate stakeholders with the required technical know-how.
