I created the Ubuntu Rising Project to address the critical need for quality education and opportunities for disadvantaged children in Zambia. As a youth leader, I saw the alarming statistics on the education crisis in Zambia and felt compelled to take action. I believe that education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and promoting long-term sustainability.
The Ubuntu Rising Project is a practical and holistic approach to education that leverages entrepreneurship, innovation, and media to equip disadvantaged children and youth in Zambia with the skills they need to succeed. We partner with the Wiseman Trust School to offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes academic subjects, practical training in entrepreneurship, and hands-on experience in media and the arts. Our program also emphasizes physical activity and recreation, recognizing the importance of a healthy mind and body.
We use innovative teaching methods and tools to engage students and promote active learning, including technology such as tablets and interactive whiteboards. Our teachers are specially trained in the Ubuntu Rising Project's approach to education and are dedicated to inspiring and motivating students to reach their full potential.
We measure the success of our program through ongoing assessments and evaluations.
The Ubuntu Rising Project has been spreading through social media, word of mouth, and media partnerships. Over the past year, we have trained over 20 children in entrepreneurship, innovation, media, and the arts, and seen marked improvements in their academic performance and confidence. Our goals for the next 2-3 years include expanding our reach, developing new partnerships, launching new programs, and continuing to innovate and refine our program. Ultimately, we aim to empower the next generation of leaders and change-makers and create a brighter future for all.
If someone is interested in adopting the Ubuntu Rising Project to their context, they can contact Chiteu Kasongo, the focal point and program lead, at easyzambia1@gmail.com or through LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram (@Kasongo_Chiteu). We will work with them to understand their needs and goals, and develop a customized program that meets their specific requirements.
