#TarkkaFyrkka - Money problems? (for teachers)

place Finland

Raising a conversation about young people’s financial problems and early intervention

Idea of innovation is to give teacher and school personnel basic tools and knowledge about credit information, payment defaults and financial problems so they can give firsthand help. The aim is to give tools to talk about personal finances and to give different methodologies how these issues can be handled during school lessons.

This was a really good workshop. I asked my colleagues' opinions about it beforehand and they all think that #TarkkaFyrkka workshops have been very good and the material is useful.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

- To prevent young people’s financial problems  provide the information and tell about the risks in the early stage, before they start to manage their own finances
- Not enough materials and information for teachers and young people
- The topic is presented in a functional and inclusive way and the focus is on mutual interaction and open communication

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice we reach the teachers and youth workers by cooperating with an NGO partner, who has good school networks in Finland. All the produced content and materials are collected to package, where the teacher can choose suitable exercises or methodology for addressing the financial literacy topic. Teacher can also book a remote workshop (held by trained young TarkkaFyrkka lecturers) to provide a more special experience during the lesson. In addition we are organizing two webinars this year, where the teachers and youth workers will gain more information about the problematic of young people’s financial challenges and risks and provide the tools and methodology on how to recognize them and provide support in an early stage.
All the content is available for free on the websites, we reach the teachers and target group via newsletters and social media.

How has it been spreading?

Whe have kept lessons to teachers/school personnel live and online. We reach the target group (teachers and youth workers) by our NGO partner and their networks, mainly by newsletters and social media. We have been also invited to educatinol institute (Keuda) to keep lessons for their school personnel and their firt year studends.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

You should check the website (https://www.nuortenakatemia.fi/hankkeet/tarkkafyrkka-rahahuolia/), where you can either download the materials and use it independently or you can book the workshop for your students. The sign up for the first webinar will be open during April and we will inform about it on our websites and social media channels. The second webinar will be held in Autumn (probably Oct
