STEAM Club

Initiative that seeks to introduce children between the ages of ten and fourteen to STEM disciplines

The project was born in 2022 as a response to the lack of opportunities and activities related to STEM disciplines for young people in the city of Rosario, Argentina. From the beginning, the idea of the STEAM Club was to be able to generate interest in innovative areas from an educational and pedagogical role, adapting to technological trends and the interests of the participants.

I hope to see young people believing in their ability to make a change. I want others to be brave and pursue their goals.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

As a child, I was fascinated by technology but lacked opportunities to explore it. In my teens, inspired by entrepreneurs and activists, I crafted a plan to promote STEM fields. Creating a club with engaging activities, I aimed to provide access to all. Now, I help kids pursue the dreams I once had, reshaping my own interests and understanding that youth can achieve their aspirations.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Interdisciplinary proposals to integrate technical and scientific knowledge in an everyday context are held, covering topics ranging from outer space and space exploration missions to Artificial Intelligence and its applications, different types of engineering and mathematical logic. Each week, the children who participate in the club take away valuable tools to understand everyday life through scientific and analytical knowledge. The idea of this proposal is that the students are the protagonists, that they can experience and immerse themselves in the different activities, improving their level of English in the process.

How has it been spreading?

The project started at one cultural institution in Rosario, Argentina. During the first year of development, there were various activities for children to engage and for families to be part of. To finish the 2023 edition of the Club, a Science Fair was organized to showcase the Club's participants projects that were related to the STEM fields. As it was a success, the 2024 edition is currently running and a local school showed its interest in this initiative. The main spread strategy that is used to communicate what is being done in the STEAM Club is Instagram.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

If you know any children between 10-14, you can contact the institutions' emails to sign up.

Implementation steps

Identifying the audience
The first thing to consider is analyzing the audience you want to reach. In the case of the STEAM Club, participants are between 10-14 years. Some things that can be considered are the topics difficulty that you want to teach, materials, and also your knowledge on a certain area.
Planning activities
The STEAM Club was initially thought as a proposal with a wide variety of areas and activities that could be done. It is essential to narrow the options and chose which topics you are interested in teaching.
Formal proposal
It is extremely important to have goals, a specific schedule and a concrete idea. With this in mind, it is time to look for a physical (or even virtual) place to develop the Club.
Invitation!
Invite people to join and create a marketing strategy to share the Club with others.
