Playworks’ mission is to improve the health and well-being of children by increasing opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play. Through play, kids learn about themselves and one another, and they develop important social skills that help them succeed. Our vision is that one day every child in America will have access to safe, fun, and healthy play every day.
Playworks provides school staff with expert training and tools so they can model and teach the social and emotional skills students need throughout the school day and beyond. Through play, kids learn about themselves and one another, and they develop important social skills such as relationship-building, conflict resolution, and teamwork, all while having fun and being physically active.
In 2017, the RAND Corporation rated Playworks Coach as one of only seven elementary school social and emotional learning programs to meet the highest criteria for evidence of impact under federal education law. In 2018, Playworks was named a Top-Rated nonprofit by GreatNonprofits, meaning we were rated highly by clients and others who experience our work first hand. In 2021, Playworks earned a Gold Seal of Transparency from Guidestar, the world’s largest source of information on nonprofits.
This year, Playworks is celebrating our 25th Anniversary. Over a quarter of a century, we have helped a generation of kids experience the joy and benefits of safe and healthy play. We have supported kids as they learn about themselves and one another, and develop important social and emotional skills, all while having fun and being physically active. As we look ahead, we are committed to creating opportunities for the next generation of kids to experience the joy, teamwork, and a sense of belonging in their school community that safe and healthy play encourages.
