Phenomenon Based Learning and Project Based Learning

Kids learning better while they are exploring phenomenons and doing projects

We are a K12 school that don't have classes, the students are not organized based in their years, they have autonomy to explore different learning paths, they learn with their peers while they are exploring phenomenons and creating artifacts during a project. They not just learn the curriculum, but also they learn how to learn and how to be empathic with different people and their collegues.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

We believe in a new education, where students have meaningful experiences and connected to their reality.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Children have learning paths where they work on the basic skills of the school curriculum. These learning paths are connected to a project, which will be carried out based on a phenomenon defined by educators for the two months of work. As they take the learning path, they create the artifacts of the project and at the end of the period they present their constructions to the class.

How has it been spreading?

Today we have 2 school in Juiz de Fora and we are planning to go to Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

It is important to know how project based learning can be adapted to your reality, considering all the opportunities and restrictions that you have. This is a good place to start.
