I created Nepal Stock Simulator to solve a major gap in financial literacy among young people and beginner investors in Nepal. The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) is growing rapidly, yet there are very few beginner-friendly resources that teach practical investing skills without the risk of losing real money. Many students and first-time investors jump directly into the market without understanding basic concepts, leading to frustration and financial loss. I wanted to build a safe, educational platform where users could experience real market dynamics using simulated credits instead of real cash. By doing this, they can learn how to invest, manage portfolios, and track profits and losses in a realistic but risk-free environment. My goal is to empower the next generation of Nepali investors with hands-on knowledge, helping them build confidence before they step into real trading. Financial education should be accessible, interactive, and tailored to Nepal's unique market – and that's exactly why I built the Nepal Stock Simulator.
In practice, the Nepal Stock Simulator is a web platform that mimics real stock trading on the NEPSE. Users create a free account and are given starting credits that they can use to "buy" and "sell" real NEPSE-listed stocks, whose prices are updated daily. They can view the market summary, see top gainers and losers, and monitor a live chart of the NEPSE Index. Each user has a personal portfolio page showing their investments, total credits left, profit/loss status, and transaction history. The interface is designed to be clean and beginner-friendly, with minimal text and intuitive buttons. Users can experience how real trading feels, watching their stocks rise and fall, making decisions about when to invest or exit but without any real financial risk. It creates a safe learning environment that is both fun and educational, and prepares users for real-world investing through practice.
Yes, the Nepal Stock Simulator has begun to spread, especially among students, beginner investors, and financial literacy enthusiasts. After launching, I shared it through school networks, coding communities, and social media platforms like Instagram. Many users have shown interest, especially because there is no other simulator focused specifically on NEPSE that is free, easy-to-use, and educational. Word-of-mouth has also helped — users who enjoyed practicing investing recommended it to their classmates and friends. Additionally, teachers and youth groups who promote financial education have started mentioning it as a tool to introduce stock market basics in a risk-free way. While it is still in an early growth stage, the feedback and organic interest I have received show strong potential for wider adoption. I am now planning to scale it further through partnerships with schools, finance clubs, and social media marketing.
Since the first version, I have added several important improvements based on user feedback. Initially, the simulator only allowed buying stocks, but I later introduced the ability to sell holdings and calculate profit/loss accurately. I also built a personal portfolio section that tracks credits, total investments, profits, and transaction history in real time. To make it easier to use, I redesigned the user interface with soothing colors, simple navigation bars, and a more visual representation of the NEPSE index. A credit system was added to create a "game" element, encouraging users to manage resources wisely. I worked rigorously to release the publically availbale prototype 1, through which I implemented even more features based on user feedback and currently the project is in Prototype 2 stage (scaling).
Trying the Nepal Stock Simulator is simple and free! First, you can visit the official website (https://nepalstocksim.pages.dev/) . There, you can create a new account by registering with a username. Once registered, you’ll receive starting credits in your account. You can explore different sections like the market summary, top gainers/losers, and NEPSE index chart to decide which stocks to buy. Using the trading form, you can place buy or sell orders easily. Your portfolio page will keep track of all your investments, credits left, and your profit or loss. If you're new to stock trading, I recommend starting by exploring the companies page, choosing a few stocks based on their past performance, and seeing how your simulated investments perform over a few days. The key is to learn by practicing without any financial risk, and if you ever need help, future updates will also include tutorials and FAQs to guide you!
