I created this innovation because I saw my economics students struggle to get the personalised support they needed, especially outside of class. Private tutors are expensive, and not everyone can afford them. Understanding economics often requires tailored explanations and timely feedback, which I couldn't always provide as a single teacher. Mitch bridges that gap and solves the problem.
My innovation takes the form of an AI-powered chatbot, trained on my teaching resources, explanations, and the common questions I receive from economics students. Students leverage it for timely support in several ways:
In-Class Clarification: During class, if a student gets confused about a concept, they can discreetly message the chatbot. It provides a quick, personalised explanation, even with examples, preventing them from feeling lost.
Homework Helper: When tackling homework, students can ask for definitions, example problems, or clarification on instructions. The chatbot becomes a virtual study buddy, offering on-demand guidance.
Independent Revision: As students prepare for exams, they can use the chatbot to review topics, get practice problems, and test their understanding.
"Just in Time" Support: The chatbot's 24/7 availability empowers students to get help the moment a question arises.
The chatbot acts as a constant companion in the student's learning journey.
The success of my innovation has been truly rewarding. Not only have my students benefited significantly, but it's also sparked interest from other teachers who see the potential for similar tools in their own subjects. I've been helping them to build similar ChatBots for their classes. While I'm currently focusing on maximising the advantage this gives students within our competitive system, I'm also passionate about sharing this knowledge. I've begun conducting workshops and webinars to empower other educators to build their own subject-specific chatbots. This allows me to contribute to a wider educational impact while maintaining a competitive edge for my own students.
