Mathigon is an online platform for middle and high school students. It combines cutting edge technology with an innovative new curriculum, to make learning mathematics more engaging than ever before: we call it the “Textbook of the Future”.
Following the principles of constructionism, our goal is to make learning mathematics much more active – allowing students to explore and discover, and not just consume information like they would in a video or textbook. Every course is divided into many small steps, and students have to actively participate at every step before the next one is revealed. Using hundreds of unique explorations, simulations, manipulatives, games and puzzles, Mathigon can teach problem-solving and creativity.
We observe every interaction and use them to seamlessly personalize the order and depth of upcoming steps – for example, by showing more detailed explanations to struggling students. If you are stuck, a virtual tutor can provide personalized hints and help, or answer questions in a chat interface.
A captivating narrative makes abstract concepts more fun and memorable, from real-life applications to historic context, or fictional stories, and every chapter is filled with colourful illustrations and animation.
Mathigon is open source and completely free to use. It works on all browsers and mobile devices, and it can be used either independently by students, or in classrooms. Over 30k students and teachers use Mathigon every month, from all around the world, and we have received numerous awards (BETT Finalist, GESS Gold Winner, Reimagine Education Gold Winner, EdTech Digest Awards Finalist, Webby Awards Honouree).
