Young people are indeed our future, we are in their hands. Doesn't it, therefore, make sense that we empower them to be capable of making the decisions needed for a safe future? This is the 21st century, but why are children taught using curricula devised in the 19th century?
The Life-Skills Framework was designed to provide a skills development map that's applicable for all ages. There is literally never too late to understand the schema and to find ways to develop each of the 9 life-skills. The 9 skills and 7 themes in the framework are taught based on experiential learning, typically 14-hours delivered over about 8 weeks or in a 2-day workshop format. In Australia, the program has been delivered for year 9 and 10 students, typically 15 or 16 years of age. St Pauls Catholic College Principal, Chris Browne, said, "The conclusion to our 8-week program with 21 selected Year 9/10 Commerce students at St Pauls on 18th November was a memorable occasion with a wonderful series of presentations in The Waterford Hall with employer-mentors present along with SEVENmile Venture Lab, our enterprise coaches. 4 groups of boys took up a problem and through diligent research and creative thinking came up with potential solutions their issues; entrepreneurship in action.
The Life-Skills programs are now sponsored by the state government department of education to encourage high schools to incorporate the programs into the school year as Project Directed Learning modules. After last year's pilot more schools are running the program in Term 2 of 2021. Read and watch the videos in the Blog report to gain a better understanding of the learning format and the outcomes that were achieved. The Life-SKills Framework can be applied in many ways and facilitators can be trained remotely to understand how the experiential learning format is utilized.
