From Awareness to Empowerment

Khwaish is an organization dedicated to supporting children with intellectual disabilities. We address the challenge of limited access to skill-building resources for these children and the lack of guidance available to parents on how to care for and empower them. We have also created specialized skill development kits for students with intellectual disabilities with educators and parents.

I envision a world where children with intellectual disabilities have access to more resources and comprehensive learning kits. I believe in providing guidance and support to both parents and educators to empower them in fostering a nurturing environment for these children. Additionally, I aim to increase awareness and ensure that more students understand the importance of inclusive education.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

I created this because I believe no child should be left behind, no parent should feel helpless, and every ability deserves Khwaish. When I visited a school for children with intellectual disabilities, I saw more than challenges — I saw dreams waiting to be fulfilled, talents waiting to be nurtured, and potential waiting to bloom. But these children lacked the basic resources to learn vital life skills, and their parents and teachers struggled without the right support or guidance.

I couldn’t just walk away. I knew I had to do something. I wanted to break the stigma, to give voice to those who are often unheard, and to build a future where every child is seen, valued, and empowered. I wanted to create a world where children with intellectual disabilities are not limited by society’s perceptions but are lifted by opportunities. A world where parents feel supported, not isolated; where educators are equipped, not overwhelmed.

That’s why I built this platform — to provide life-skill resources tailored to these children, expert guidance that parents and teachers can trust, and a compassionate community that stands together for inclusion, dignity, and equal opportunity. This is not just a project; it’s a movement to create an inclusive future where every child can thrive.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Khwaish is a nationally recognized initiative committed to raising awareness about children with intellectual disabilities among neurotypical children and building an inclusive society. With a network of 20 Ambassadors across India, we actively spread this message through schools and communities.

We have developed skill development kits to empower children with practical life skills — from identifying currency notes and coins to reading price tags — helping them build confidence and independence. These kits have been distributed to schools through partnerships with educators and parents.

Beyond this, Khwaish conducts art and creative activities with children and showcases their talents in Virtual Reality (VR) art exhibitions, giving their voices a powerful platform. We have also created Augmented Reality (AR) filters to bust myths, challenge stereotypes, and raise awareness among the broader public.

Our online platform offers guidance for parents, providing activity ideas, expert advice, and easy access to book consultations with doctors and educators.

How has it been spreading?

We have brought together a growing network of ambassadors who are passionately spreading awareness in their schools and communities, sparking meaningful conversations and creating lasting change. Through our collaborations with dedicated educators and special schools for children with intellectual disabilities, we are working together to foster understanding, empathy, and inclusion in every corner.

Our kits, which have reached numerous locations, are helping bridge the gap by offering valuable resources for learning and growth. We've organized engaging activities, shared inspiring stories, and showcased the importance of inclusive education.

In our constant pursuit to improve, we've enhanced the kit by adding more cards and games, turning learning into a fun, interactive experience that encourages creativity, communication, and skill development. Every step we take is a step closer to empowering children with intellectual disabilities, creating a world where they are seen, heard, and valued.

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

We’ve significantly upgraded the innovation by adding new milestone cards to track progress more effectively, incorporating Games for interactive learning experiences, and introducing engaging games within the kit to keep children motivated. We’ve also enhanced the platform with more comprehensive guidance for parents, ensuring they have the tools and resources to support their child's development. Additionally, we’ve forged new collaborations with experts and organizations to expand the reach and impact of the initiative. To make the kit more user-friendly, we’ve included detailed, easy-to-follow instructions, helping parents and caregivers navigate the activities with ease.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

Our kits are designed to empower educators, schools, and parents to support children with intellectual disabilities, helping them unlock their full potential. These carefully crafted kits come with step-by-step instructions, enabling educators and parents to teach essential life skills using milestone and roadmap cards, along with level-based challenges that encourage growth and progress. The kit also includes fun, interactive games that keep children engaged while learning.

Parents can further connect with our platform, where they can access expert guidance, personalized support, and book consultations to better navigate their child’s learning journey.

But our mission doesn’t stop there. We believe in creating an inclusive world, which is why we also raise awareness about intellectual disabilities among neurotypical children. Through our network of passionate ambassadors, we bridge the gap and foster empathy, understanding, and inclusivity, ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to thrive. Together, we are shaping a future where all children, regardless of ability, are recognized, valued, and empowered to succeed.
