HBA serves students who are extra-age in the educational system and who, since they do not have a basic command of the written code, cannot be part of the program designed by the system to respond to this problem: Learning acceleration. HBA levels basic education from 1st to 3rd, in the academic process of communities affected by social problems such as displacement, forced migration, child labor.
HBA works as a regular classroom in an official educational entity and under the pedagogical parameters of the institution. A group of HBA is made up of a maximum of 25 students in a classroom, attended by a designated teacher and on the regular day, under the regulatory and curricular provisions of the educational entity, but respecting the programmatic structure of HBA. Through a training plan and accompaniment to the teacher that we have generated from HBA, the leveling of grades 1st to 3rd is achieved.
The classroom route is oriented based on the principles of the "project methodology", the "competency approach" and the "Meaningful Learning". In this route, two segments of the school day are contemplated: 1. activities of the real context of the students, called "Daily life in action" that consist of guiding questions so that they put their knowledge and experiences around different topics; 2. an invitation to innovation and creativity through a routine called "Sparks".
Achievements:
1. Geographical extension: Since 2008 it has been running in Cali and Buenaventura, in 2012, HBA reaches the departments of Atlántico and Antioquia and in 2022, it reaches Cúcuta.
2. The Ministry of National Education granted in 2022, the concept of quality to HBA, recognizing it as part of the portfolio of Flexible Educational Models (MEF) certified.
3. Since the beginning, there have been valuable public-private partnerships, with a fundamental role played by the municipal Education Secretariats, as well as international cooperators, among others.
Objectives:
1. Reach the certified territorial entities that we have not reached with HBA.
2. Expand alliances with more actors in the ecosystem.
3. Creation of a learning community that facilitates the sustainability and scale.
From the Carvajal Foundation we offer the possibility of transferring the HBA model, presenting and developing the steps, conditions and requirements to implement it in any educational entity that has a vulnerable population in its community, including the border migrant population and extra-age students.
