Race to learn

Relay races involve a team of runners passing a baton to each other in a race against other teams. The strategies for how to run a relay race deal mostly with the order of the runners the best runner should be the last one. So each runner will get a question inside the baton to be answered and then get a number then the numbers will be used to open the safe to find the whole mission to be completed

Relay race learning aims to revolutionize education by promoting a dynamic, collaborative, and engaging learning environment. The long-term goal of this innovation is to foster a shift from traditional, passive learning to an active, participatory approach that encourages students to take ownership of their education. By incorporating elements of teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Relay races, typically associated with physical activities and sportsmanship, might seem an unconventional choice for classroom learning. Yet, when repurposed as an educational tool, relay races offer a dynamic and engaging way to reinforce academic concepts, foster teamwork, and spark enthusiasm among students.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

It is a great fun and ignites competitiveness among the kids. It can used in all subjects. It is an easy and simple way to have fun while learning.

How has it been spreading?

It is spreading but may be private schools are more free to practice or adopt new strategies than public schools.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

Bring only six or four batons and four or six digital safes a time keeping tool too. You can prepare the questions or missions printed on paper and put them inside the batons. Then divide the students into four or six teams and have one or two on each stage to solve the question and elicit the first pincode number and finally the best student will solve the last question and finish the race.

Implementation steps

Preparation
Prepare your questions or tasks and have them been printed or in codes and pur them inside the baton, each team with similar questions or different as you wish. And have each task to lead to one digit if the pincode to open the safe. Each time you should change the safe pincode. If there are 4 questions you should have at least one student waiting to read the questions or read the code using a mobile QR app. Finally prepare the key question/questions inside the safe.
Implementation stage
Divide the class into 4 or 6 teams according to the size of the class and make sure that the best student should be the last runner to solve the problem or to answer the key question.
Evaluation stage
The teacher should actively seek feedback from learners, engage students in self-assessment, and be open to continuous improvement. Each team has to reflect on their performance in this activity and suggest things to be done next time to be more successful.
