Target group
We aim to contribute to education reform globally wherein the latest research on human learning is not foreign to educators and students, but central to a mission of developing every student into a sophisticated lifelong learner. We aim to ensure that 21st-century skills are not pursued in a vacuum to exacerbate inequities. Instead, we want to ensure every learner has the opportunity to develop the foundational skills that underpin all learning. A holistic approach allows for inclusion and personalization to be a more realistic rather than a universal aspiration. We aim to empower students to become lifelong learners ready for both work and life, by equipping educators and systems with practical tools, frameworks, and implementation support grounded in the Science of Learning. We aim to reduce equity gaps where some learners accelerate while others fall behind, by democratizing access to effective learning strategies and ensuring every child—regardless of background—has the opportunity to become a better learner. We aim to shift schooling from a narrow focus on academic performance to one that embraces mastery, deep learning and transfer, by helping schools implement teaching practices that prioritize understanding, retention, and application. We aim to bring the Science of Learning to the masses, by continuously translating research into scalable programs, tools, and thought leadership that can be applied across diverse education systems globally.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Learning is a scientific process. Yet across K–College, teaching practices often rely on intuition rather than evidence. Students depend on ineffective strategies like re-reading and highlighting, while rigorous disciplines, especially STEM, are perceived as “too hard” or reserved for a select few. The result is predictable: disengagement, underperformance, and lost potential.

Concurrently, the global push for 21st-century skills like critical thinking and creativity cannot be developed in isolation. These depend on knowledge that is too often fleeting because teaching and learning is not based on learning science and too many schools focus on academic performance rather than learning. Knowledge is learned deeply when techniques for encoding and retrieval are embedded into instruction and students master strategies to monitor and control their own learning. These are further enhanced by targeting information processing skills.

The consequences are systemic. Too few students meet college readiness benchmarks, many require remediation, and completion rates remain low. Employers echo this gap, with only a small fraction believing graduates are workforce-ready. This disconnect is not just educational, it is economic, contributing to a growing global talent shortage.

Our innovation was born from a simple premise: if learning is a science, teaching and learning must be designed accordingly: building strong foundations that enable lifelong learning skills.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, we created the Lifelong Learning Framework from over 1,500 research papers in cognitive science.

It is designed to build the foundational skills required for lifelong learning and is the basis for all COGx programs, presentations, and learning experiences.

The framework is operationalized across three key components:
• Research translation into applied instructional design
• Global dissemination through workshops, presentations, and thought leadership
• Certification through structured/multilingual programs contained in an LMS (supported by other tech platforms that enhance learning) and delivered to educators, school leaders and students in private and public schools and colleges globally.

Programs are active, collaborative, and application-based. Learning is embedded in practice through cycles of implementation, feedback, and reflection.

We customize programs (cadence, content and support) while integrating expert coaching, peer learning, and structured adoption support to ensure mastery and fidelity.

Through continuous improvement and adaptive integration, we localize, contextualize and iterate programs to maximize impact as we scale. The programs evolve through feedback loops, implementation data, and ongoing advances in cognitive science.

Grounded in research on effective learning, the model emphasizes sustained engagement, collaboration, and practice-based application turning science into lifelong learning capability and improved outcomes.

How has it been spreading?

The efficacy of our programs drives their growth through word of mouth. This is coupled with a process that is flexible, programs that are affordable yet rigorous in their evidence-base. Our translation of cognitive science research has been an endeavor pursued with top academics in the field, who co-created programs and ensured their efficacy and validity.

As the work expanded, investment support enabled us to increase accessibility and broaden impact globally. Schools increasingly recognized COGx as as a comprehensive job-embedded system that strengthens every teacher's efficacy while elevating every student's ability to learn independently for life.

This led to adoption across schools and systems internationally, alongside growing global recognition. The Dubai Future Foundation selected COGx as a global innovator in education (the only company selected from the Western Hemisphere). COGx has also been recognized as a leading EdTech innovator at the LatinX Education Summit and as the top global Science of Learning solution at the Reimagine Education Awards (Wharton & QS), selected from over 1,100 entries.

COGx has delivered programs across 20+ countries, fueled by a a net promoter score of 9/10. Our alumni serve as our ambassadors. This momentum brings us closer to our vision: democratizing access to the Science of Learning at global scale.

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

Ongoing data analysis and research lead to rapid cycles of continuous improvement. In addition, we recently earned a grant to further customize and scale our programs for low-income / first generation college students. This funding is partly allocated towards building a proprietary technology platform to provide ongoing support and training on effective study skills and strategies. Our program offering is expanding to include university course redesign for first year college students in Latin America. This ensures the instructional design is based on learning science principles improving retention and mastery. This further complements the COGx program they'll experience in the science of learning, to maximize impact and consistency for their college experience.

In 2025, we redesigned program structures to better fit school realities, making them more modular and accessible so educators can engage across the school year within existing time constraints.

We have also expanded into emerging areas such as the impact of AI and technology on learning and wellbeing, developing resources and thought leadership to help educators, parents, and leaders respond to these challenges.

Together, these new services and program adaptations keep the framework practical, current, and grounded in the Science of Learning while improving real-world usability.

The first step is to contact us via our website. We begin by understanding your context through a needs-based survey and consultation process, helping identify the priorities, cadence, and learning needs of your community.

From there, we design a contextualized pathway for implementation of the Lifelong Learning Framework. This can take the form of structured programs, workshops, or events depending on what best fits your school or system.

Our team then supports rollout through guided implementation, ensuring the framework is applied meaningfully within your environment rather than delivered as a one-size-fits-all solution.

Implementation steps

Initial consultation
Organizations begin with a consultation call with COGx to understand goals, context, and alignment. This helps clarify whether the focus is programs, presentations, or a blended approach.
Needs and context survey
A structured survey is shared with leadership and relevant stakeholders to understand priorities, audience needs, and preferred cadence of engagement. This ensures the experience is contextualized rather than standardized.
Design and alignment
Based on insights from the consultation and survey, COGx co-designs the engagement plan—this may include a program sequence, workshop series, or presentation pathway aligned to the Lifelong Learning Framework.
Delivery of programs or thought leadership sessions
COGx delivers interactive sessions (programs, workshops, or presentations) grounded in the Science of Learning. Materials and resources are shared to support application and reflection.
Ongoing engagement and support
For programs, partners receive structured support, including expert guidance and where applicable, coaching and peer engagement. For presentation-based engagements, follow-up resources and reflection tools are provided.
Evaluation and feedback
Participants complete post-engagement surveys. In program contexts, additional data is collected through student or educator evaluations (e.g., self-efficacy, metacognitive awareness, study habits).
Impact reporting and insights
COGx shares a consolidated report with key findings, participant feedback, and impact insights to inform next steps and future implementation.
