Introduction

How we bring digital skills to every child

“Talent is universal, opportunity is not - Nicholas Kristof”

Sarah, Executive Assistant

codefuture.org is the world’s platform for empowering children with digital skills. Founded in Melbourne, Australia in November 2014, codefuture.org allows teachers and schools all over the world to connect with volunteer ‘digital skills’ mentors. CF came about as there was a clear gap in the way children were taught digital skills as educators usually did not have the skill set to provide the hands on expertise that was required by the new digital technologies curriculum.

codefuture.org aims to move the generation of tomorrow from consumers of technology to creators and producers. Through these experiences students will be equipped with the skills to not only use technology but to make it work for them.

Our mentors make it possible for students to have authentic, real world learning opportunities and have the chance to take their coding and digital skills to the next level.

codefuture.org is innovative and sets its self apart from other models as it provides both the teaching tool (e.g. Scratch) & the teaching process all supported by the volunteer mentor.  Flexibility is paramount throughout the process; the educator lists a project based on what they want to achieve (although template projects are also listed), they can set the hours/requirements for the volunteers & choose to have a volunteer participate in person or online.  Through this flexibility codefuture.org ensures that children of any age, experience, location or circumstance can access digital skills learning.
