Through the Climate Hero Card Game, the change we hope to see in education is a shift from traditional, lecture-based learning to a more play-based, emotionally engaging, and action-oriented approach—especially when it comes to teaching children about climate and environmental issues.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Climate Hero Card Game has been created to make environmental and climate education fun, engaging, and accessible for children. Instead of lectures or textbooks, we wanted to use playful learning to help kids understand real-world issues like air pollution, water scarcity, and deforestation—while also showing them how positive actions can make a difference.

The goal was to:

🧠 Develop critical thinking by matching problems with solutions
🤝 Encourage teamwork and action through play
🎲 Make learning about the planet feel like a game, not a lesson

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Climate Hero is a non-digital, hands-on educational card game that combines flashcards with multiple game formats to teach children environmental and climate education through play. Each card features symbols, numbers, and eco-critical themes (like pollution, recycling, biodiversity, and climate action). It is designed to be simple enough for 4-year-olds to play, yet versatile enough to engage older children, families, and educators.
The game is used in classrooms, climate clubs, awareness events, and at home, promoting curiosity, critical thinking, and eco-conscious behavior through fun, inclusive learning experiences.

How has it been spreading?

Climate Hero has been introduced in schools, educational workshops, and child-focused environmental events in Bangladesh through our initiative, Super Kid Initiatives. It has gained recognition in climate carnivals, early childhood centers, and teacher training sessions. The low-cost, no-tech design makes it easy to distribute and replicate in low-resource settings. Interest has started growing regionally, and we are now exploring global collaborations and award platforms for wider reach.

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

We continuously adapt the game based on user feedback—especially from children and educators. Initially a simple card-matching activity, it has evolved to include multiple play formats: cooperative games, quiz-style challenges, storytelling cards, and eco-mission cards. We've also localized content to reflect environmental issues relevant to specific regions and are developing an educator’s guide to support integration into early childhood and primary education curricula.

Implementation steps

The Invention
After creating the draft design of the card game, a sample copy was shared with teachers and play therapy experts in Bangladesh. Following their review and approval, the game underwent multiple rounds of gameplay testing. Once the sample was finalized and endorsed by the experts, production of some sample copies was carried out.
The Testing
After creating the sample, the card game was introduced in several schools and indoor playgrounds, where both children and adults played it to assess its suitability and effectiveness. Based on the feedback collected, some design elements were revised and the gameplay was refined to enhance the overall experience.
In Market
Following the sample testing, a bulk production of the card game was developed and sales began through various channels, including children's festivals, fairs, online platforms, and select physical stores. All buyers were encouraged to share their feedback, especially through social media, to help improve the game further. The card game is promoted both as a fun, engaging activity and as an effective tool for environmental education.
On going Development
In addition to selling the current product, we are actively developing an extended version of the card game. We are also working on a full Bengali translation to make it more accessible to people in Bangladesh. To enhance the experience further, we are planning to create an online version of the game and are exploring extensions such as adding a board and dice for additional gameplay options.
