At the age of 15, only 0,5% women in the world wish to become professional in science & tech, then only 30% women choose STEM disciplines at college. In an era where technology is transforming the way we live and interact, women's voices and perspectives must be included. Chicas en Tecnología works to reduce the tech-gender gap and encourages young women to be creators of technology
Through its programs it seeks that young women learn that with available technology they can transform realities. The objective is to end with gender stereotypes around these areas, offering practical experiences in STEAM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) with connection to real life, recognizing positive images of STEM professional women, promoting educators as active mentors or linking girls with mentoring. Especially, demystifying the idea that technology involves only programming and that it is developed by experts only. In the long term, increased opportunities for women in these fields translate into greater economic success and equality for women at all levels. Since 2019 CET has had its own, secure and dynamic Digital Platform that allows the design of tailor-made activities, creating sections necessary for the project, adding resources from other sources and adapting the proposals to the needs of the different contexts.
Currently, Chicas en Tecnología’s programs are implemented in Argentina, México, Colombia, Perú, Chile, Uruguay.
From 2015 to the present, +6000 adolescent women participated in the programs and acquired soft skills and impact skills, as well as technical-technological skills. That is, they developed their confidence in STEAM subjects and recognized that they are not related to gender.
Furthermore, during 2020, in the global context of a pandemic, Chicas en Tecnología launched HubCET: new free online/offline interactive webinars to motivate the technology with social impact and gender perspective but to the whole community. We registered participants from Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Chile, Spain, USA, France, Portugal
