We observed many street children deprived of education, turning to child labor, antisocial activities, and substance abuse. To break this cycle, we provide free education and meals, believing it will help them grow into productive individuals. Additionally, while the Santhal people are welcoming and generous, their lack of resources, poverty, and language barriers have kept them backward.
Our innovation provides pre-primary education to 3-6-year-old first-generation learners. The school operates six days a week, offering free meals and educational resources. In local areas, we also run 3 contact points for street children who may not always be available to attend school, ensuring they have access to learning whenever possible. This approach helps break barriers to education and supports vulnerable children.
We started in 2011 with one school and 10 children. Now, we have 9 schools in different areas of West Bengal, helping over 400 children. Our growth comes from community support, good word of mouth, and successful programs. Recently, more children aged 8 to 15 have joined, showing the need for programs that suit their age group and continued growth.
To try something similar, start by identifying a community in need and set up a small school or learning space offering free education and meals. Engage with local families to ensure the program meets their needs. Build community trust, seek volunteers, and create a sustainable funding model. As the program grows, evaluate its impact and expand to other areas. Reaching out to similar organizations
