Growing Resilience Within

Children who are resilient see difficulties as an opportunity to grow and they do not shy away from challenges. They take responsibility for their actions. They know how to self-regulate and are self-aware. Children who have GRIT develop a high EQ, a sound IQ, greater self-belief and are happier to the core. This program is making waves in our diverse, all inclusive South African context.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Poor mental health in adults today. Depression and anxiety are the norm. Therapy, drug addiction and alcohol abuse are on the rampage. Everything stems from a lack of skills to cope when we face challenges. A poor self-esteem and lack of self-love are at the very core of the problem. This program was developed to get to the root of the problem and equip children with specific skills to thrive!

What does your innovation look like in practice?

The GRIT program addresses these issues at their core. Children are equipped with specific skills in the form of tools that they immediately implement into their own lives. These tools help them to self-regulate and they learn how to respond rather than react to challenges. They embrace challenges and see them as an opportunity to grow. They learn how to love themselves unconditionally and a sense of self-worth and self-belief is instilled deeply within each and every one of them. They learn how to calmly respond to things when they do not go their way and they are empowered to make the best choices. We have plenty of evidence to prove that this is making a huge difference in children's lives. I have attached references to this innovation. Children are stronger, happier and thriving. This program can be trained online or in person and it is a set out program with specific tools that the children use when they encounter difficulties. Resilience and self-development are the theme!

How has it been spreading?

GRIT has many accomplishments to be proud of, here are some of our best and proudest moments.
1. We trained a Professional Rugby team to have GRIT (video is attached in the references). The transformation of the entire team made waves on National Television.
2. We appeared on a podcast on the Education Show with David Watts (Link is attached). We are the number one organization on an Education platform called Zibuza.net.
3. Weekly we hold kids workshops which has had such a huge impact. (video is attached).

All the reference letters, links to videos etc are attached and you have to watch them to see fully what a huge impact this is making!

9 September 2020GRIT Growing Resilence within Individuals and Teams Dear Candace Thank you for allowing me to be part of the GRIT family, what an awesome experience it has been. I want to express my appreciation to you for the amazing traning course. It was extremely informative. Your excellent training course, skills and courteous personality has helped me tremendously through my personal and business journey over the past 4 months. Without your trainng course and guidance I would not have been able to achieve what I have achieved over the past 4 months. It is comforting to know that whenever I have a question or need guidance you always provide the correct advice at the right time. I like that you refer to our personal and work related situations as examples when traning and chatting to me. I have learned so much from you and your course, and I look forward to learning more in the near future GRIT is an excellent traning course, I appreciate you personally for taking the time to provide me new life skills and out looks. Thank you for the remarkable course and guidance. Reference for the GRIT Grow kiddies workshop My 7 year old little girl loved the workshop. She sat on her own and really enjoyed participating, telling her stories and listening to others. I sent her on this course in hope that she would come out the other side as a confident, happy little girl who, if she was not feeling herself, would be able to put into words how she was feeling, and of course, tell me. And, if she found herself in difficult situations at school, or anywhere, she would have an idea of how to understand them. She started a new school in the middle of the workshop and I was a bit worried as she new no one and had not been to school in over a year. Well, she was amazing! She has already made a few friends, she loves her teachers and when I go to pick her up, she doesn't want to leave. I also find that she has loads of patience with her younger brother but, when she gets irritated I can see her taking deep breaths and trying to either remove herself from the situation or controlling her irritation. ( this is very difficult for her, as her brother just wants to be with her all the time!) Candace has an amazing way with the kids, they seem to open up to her and she gets the best out of them. I would recommend this kiddies workshop to any and everyone, as it doesn't matter if your kid is super confident or not or completely fine, they will learn life lessons that I wish I had learnt a long time ago. Claire Gregory +27 83 655 7179
12 February 2021 To Whom It May Concern RE: Letter of recommendation for Candace Bester I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to you Candace, for the work that you have done with me over the past 3 months. Not only have you coached me, but you have helped me to truly believe in myself. I never realized that this was the missing piece of my puzzle. My personal life has changed drastically as well as my accomplishments within my career, but more than that, I am so much happier than I have ever been before. The kind, loving way that you approach each and every session helped me to feel safe and I am so glad that I trusted you, because in my opinion I would not be where I am today, without your help. My family and friends have all seen a big difference in me and wherever possible I am always sure to point them in your direction. I have seen therapists in the past who were unable to do what you did for me. Even though I now feel strong enough to ‘fly’, just knowing that you are there if the wheels ever had to come off again, is so reassuring. Thank you, Ryan Houston 5 star Michelin Chef +27 84 485 8267
2020/07/19 To whom it may concern I have had the honour of knowing Candace Lamprecht Bester since 2017 when she arranged for my visits to her school. We have since been in consultation on many occasions. As a teacher she is an incredibly passionate individual who is determined to assist students in reaching their full potential. She also has natural leadership skills in supporting her colleagues. Candace is a highly energetic and positive person who has a desire to support and encourage others. She relates well to all ages, is well-spoken and very reassuring. Her positive energy is contagious. I had the privilege of attending a full day of her GRIT course which covered the following topics: Getting to know myself, Perspectives, Core beliefs, Triggers, Emotions, Self-love and Self-care, Goals and Visions. I found it to be highly inspiring and introspective which is valuable as we seldom find time for self-reflection in our busy lives. This type of contemplation would be beneficial to tweens and teens as they navigate this life stage in a complex era, and Candace has the appropriate energy and compassion for this. Grit is passion and perseverance for long-term and meaningful goals. It is the ability to persist in something you feel passionate about and persevere when you face obstacles. I have full confidence in Candace being able to instill this in people needing support and direction in life. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Jill Altenroxel+27 82 339 2434
Dear Candace I would like to thank you for allowing both my kids Lesedi (8) and Anthony (12) the opportunity to attend the GRIT workshop from May 2021 Lesedi attended the GRIT workshop from the 20th of May 2021 and already I could see the difference in her personality and attitude from the first session. She was very happy to engage with other children and to also learn more about herself, her emotions, accountability and self-esteem. Lesedi has completely come out of her shell, she stands up for herself, she speaks up where necessary, whereas in the past she would just retreat and become a victim. Anthony attended the 2nd workshop in June, before he attended he was very angry and irritable .He would bottle up emotions and take out his anger onto Lesedi (the sister). He is much gentler now and controls his emotions better especially when he is shown his mistakes. Both children were struggling to fit into their new surroundings (GAUTENG) as they grew up in Cape Town where the culture and environment is completely different From Gauteng. Before the workshop both Lesedi and Anthony argued a lot and Lesedi would let her brother have his way even though he was wrong. They now both know how to work through their emotions. It warms my heart to see both of them sitting and playing together without fighting or arguing. Their 2 year old sister is also calmer as she notices there is more harmony between them. I in turn I’m not playing referee anymore and I am much calmer too I believe the best gift any parent could give to their child(ren) is this workshop. We grew up without such opportunities and we were even not taught the importance of self-love. Kind Regards Sonia Silabele +27 78 842 6641
