Sail For Good is a unique experiment in which a family of five will be sailing around the world for six consecutive years between 2016-2022. The experiment will trial new ways in learning to learn and promoting education internationally.

Riikka and Tuomo Meretniemi, a couple that has sailed together for twenty-five years, began their family’s journey in Turkey earlier this summer. With the help of digital tools onboard, the children will progress with their school work while sailing. There is brilliant opportunity to reinvent a model for personalised learning through the experiment for further implementation as a solution to living situations in which attending school is complicated or near impossible.

The 17.5 metre sailboat and continuous change in scenery offer new innovative learning environments that cater well to the demands of the new Finnish National Core Curriculum. In addition to studying traditional school subjects, the children will develop valuable life skills and cultural competency along the way. Schedules and daily routines will be flexible and the parents will facilitate and guide the learning experience.

In partnership with HundrED, the Meretniemi family will be producing video learning material from a variety of countries for the use of schools, as well as additional material for audiences to follow the learning experience online.
