Who is Donald Martin?
Donald Martin was just recently appointed as the Executive Director of Intermediate Unit 1. Prior to this, he held the position of Assistant Executive Director for the past eight years. He began his career in education as an elementary teacher where he spent 12 years in the classroom. He has been an administrator in three districts; the California School District; East Allegheny School District; and Frazier School District spanning over 13 years. During this time, he served as an Assistant Principal, Elementary Principal, Middle School Principal, High School Principal, and Assistant Superintendent. Prior to joining the IU1 team in 2010, Mr. Martin served as Superintendent of Schools in the Frazier School District.
He is a graduate of the California University of Pennsylvania, earning his BA in Speech Communications, and MEd in Elementary Education. Mr. Martin also holds K-12 Principal Certification and earned a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility. Mr. Martin is currently pursuing his doctorate in education at the California University of Pennsylvania.
A major part of his duties at Intermediate Unit 1 is to oversee all aspects of career readiness and workforce development. He serves as a liaison between corporations, companies, and school districts and serves on the Fayette/Westmoreland County Workforce Investment Board. He also is an active member of the Fayette County Education Committee. Mr. Martin is also a member of the Washington County Children and Youth Board.
As the Executive Director of IU1, Mr. Martin has the responsibility of overseeing all operations of 650 employees house in facilities which span a three-county region.
IU1 Fab Lab believes everyone learns differently, and therefore they provide opportunities to students to focus on their own mental wellness in an innovative approach to hands-on, personalized learning. Students are able to grow and succeed in their endeavors within the classroom environment, using the skills and knowledge they have gained through their experiences in the Fab Lab to effectively and successfully support their mental health needs.
