About the innovation

What is skooldesk

Skooldesk is a web based e learning platform that combines traditional and interactive learning models. Students can practice tests and receive instant feedback upon completion. Interactive learning objects make learning fun while providing a personalized rich learning experience. An analytics engine helps parents and teachers track individual performance of each learner.

Implementation steps

Motivation / Rationale

In Sierra Leone and Liberia, 95% of young adult women who have completed primary school still can't read a simple sentence. Education in Africa is faced with challenges of high dropout rates, low grades in Math and Science and low literacy levels and language skills. Large class sizes have put a strain on teachers and they are not able to provide effective teaching to students. Parents from poor backgrounds are not able to afford quality reading and learning materials such as textbooks, pamphlets and other resources that can help their children improve their learning outcomes. Parents receive report cards at the end of the school term or year, and this data is not actionable. The reports are not detailed and can not provide sufficient information to diagnose a child’s problem area.
