Zoe's Read on the go

place Nigeria

Making learning spaces come alive

Zoe's read on the go app is an app that allows students the chance of reading or listening to their textbooks while doing other things like the house chores, which is a normal excuse for students in Africa. It also has a voice command that allows the blind to also get access to the app without much help as the app navigates on it own when given the command. It is a multilingual app.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

This app helps to solve that problem as they could just plug in their earphones or leave it on speaker to read the book to them while they carry out other activities. With the voice command of the app blind students can also benefit from listening to books without much help in navigating the app as they won't be left out of getting to read good and interesting books

What does your innovation look like in practice?

The Innovation is a work in progress. We are on the second phase of the app, it was broken down into phases as a result of lack of funds.
This app helps to solve that problem as they could just plug in their earphones or leave it on speaker to read the book to them while they carry out other activities. With the voice command of the app blind students can also benefit from listening to books without much help in navigating the app as they won't be left out of getting to read good and interesting books.
The multi lingual function allow people from other countries speaking other languages to also access and get a version of the different books on the app in their local language

How has it been spreading?

Over the last one year the Innovation has made feasible progress by testing it methods with the blind giving the audio books that interest them. Survey has been carried out in 30 schools and smo g students to ascertain if they would download such app if they ever get access to one and the results has always been positive. The only challenge is getting approved book publishers to allow an e version of their books on the app
