About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

I was born in Kiremba village (last village) where injustices in access to education are seen as normal. girls cannot access education due to long distances and indigenous cultural beliefs such as a girl child is not supposed to go to school, its for boys. This motivated me to advocate for their right to quality education and hence innovative solutions.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

our solution identifies village members in the community and train them to uplift their formal and informal education teaching/delivery skills and digital skills. After successfully completing the training, they become EDU AT EDGE Community Educator (CEs) and are deployed in the community with android tablets that contain the EDU AT EDGE application to deliver home-based education to young mothers, children with disabilities, and those living in rural villages and refugee camps. This application provides a Technology Enhanced Learning System (TELS) ensuring the delivery of quality education. In case of consultation from more senior teachers, our Android App offers consultation interfaces between senior teachers and CEs, and students and CEs. Our TELS also provides study/reading materials and pre-recorded lesions on both formal and informal education to the students and teaching materials to CEs.

How has it been spreading?

we have been working on the product since 08/05/ 2019. The developer of the product began work in November of 2019 and the product went into testing in December of 2019. The reviews and feedback from testing indicated an excellent acceptance level for the product, and on 1st January 2020, the product was launched in Nyemerwa Buikwe district and later in the Kisimula Nakaseke District of Uganda. on 22nd February 2022, the organization was incorporated as EDU AT EDGE Currently, we are working with 22 community educators and educating 138 pupils from both districts, raised USD12,000, and partnering three big organizations in Uganda.

in the next 1-3 years we target to be working with 500 local community members educating 6000 pupils in East Africa, and securing six big partnerships.
