How Can We Make Sure Every Child Flourishes? | HundrED at SXSW EDU 2019

Lasse Leponiemi, our Executive Director will be hosting a session on K-12 Track on what students expect from their education in the US and internationally.

Lasse Leponiemi, our Executive director will be running a session on K-12 Track at the annual SXSWedu on March 4th, discussing what children expect from their education in the US and internationally.

The session will highlight the need for change, showcasing viewpoints of 322 people under the age of 18, from 19 countries across the world, indicating a disconnect between students’ expectations and experience of education. This session reveals that students in multiple countries have a shared view on whether they are adequately prepared for their lives post-school. The session is based on HundrED Research.

The SXSWedu Conference & Festival fosters innovation in learning by hosting a passionate and diverse community of education stakeholders. SXSWedu is a component of the South by Southwest family of conferences and festivals. Internationally recognized as the convergence gathering for creative professionals, SXSWedu extends SXSW’s support for the art of engagement to include society’s true rock stars: educators!

As Lasse prepares to leave for Austin, Texas, he shares his thoughts on the youth voice and role of student participation:

Last year we witnessed how many students in the US took an action towards things they cared about. In order to build active citizenship, we need to foster this movement. And it also gives us an excellent sounding board for efficient learning experiences, when the learning can be connected to things which matter to our students.
