Reinventing Learning Experiences

Augmented Reality Games for Children with Special Needs

location_on Pakistan
WonderTree is a technology company using gamification to inject joy into physical and cognitive therapy for kids through fun, interactive, augmented reality games. We are an unlikely pair of clinically trained psychologists and game developers who believe play has the power to accelerate development and recovery for kids and recent results prove movement and cognition is enhanced through games.
Today I had my son, on the spectrum, play WonderGames and it was pure joy. The games are fun but more importantly thoroughly researched to provide maximum engagment with focus on attention span.

about the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Physical and Learning Therapy is expensive. In the developing world, there are structural inefficiences, lack of psychologists, institutions and limited funding available to foster these children. Therapeutic practices deployed in most countries are boring and unrewarding; children face adversity in trying to participate. We understood the need to bring digital transformation to therapy.

How does your innovation work in practice?

There is a lack of innovation in therapy and learning practices. We believe in opportunities to scale and to make special education through gamified learning for children with learning delays and mild to moderate physical difficulties. We believe that play has the power to accelerate development and recovery for kids and recent results show they are helping them enhance their motor and cognitive skills.

It is evident that any single remote learning channel to reach all children is virtually impossible. With the right partnerships, WonderTree is gamifying the Early Childhood Education and Development Curriculum for the Children with Special Needs to reduce learning vulnerabilities. We have partnered with relevant universities and health institutions to do research on our games, we have partnered with governments and telecommunications companies, we are trying to scale our digital solution to reach places where there are no psychologists or special educators.

How has it been spreading?

In the last 2 years, WonderTree has been able to secure partnerships for National curriculum content sharing with Pakistan and Qatar Governments. We have also obtained contractual agreements to deploy in Public Schools in Pakistan and Qatar, as well as established distributor partnerships in the USA, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Australia. We have received grant from UNICEF Innovation Fund in their Gen-U cohort in 2020, and were part of the Google for Startups SDG Accelerator; being the only Pakistani and Asian Startup to be a part of their program.

Moving ahead, we have incorporated ourselves in the USA to establish and foster distributor partnerships in North America and Europe. We are also keeping close tabs on our existing partnerships to scale in Asia and Africa.

If I want to try it, what should I do?
