There`s serious underrepresentation of girls in STEM, evident in low income areas, and rural where socio economic and cultural practices are major barriers. Our innovation aims to provide STEM tinkering spaces and resources to foster curiosity, creativity, and imagination in young minds and inculcate skills such as design thinking, computational thinking, technical skills and entrepreneurship.
We promote the adoption creative spaces and resources for learners and educators to explore science, technologies, mathematics, engineering and mathematics (STEM), computer science, creative coding and physical computing by collaborating with parents, teachers, schools and institutions to develop tinkering labs/spaces, acquiring of STEM kits, teacher capacity development in coding and physical computing, through competitions and innovation fairs.
We are currently supporting over 250 schools in Kenya and East Africa, supporting the Ministry of Education roll out creative coding and robotics including competitions and curriculum development.
Our aim capacity build a coder in every homestead in Kenya achievable through partnerships with parents, teachers, schools and institutions throughout the country.
In the next 2-3 years we are looking at expanding STEM Impact Labs all over Kenya through public institutions like museums and national libraries to provide more tinkering opportunities in communities. Providing community-based digital skills training targeting low income areas(rural, arid and semi arid areas (ASAL)and informal settlements in Kenya).
