Ambassador & Advisory Board Member, HundrED Passionate about Education, Innovation and 21st Century Skills

I am Maria Jose, an Educator currently based in Ottawa, Canada.  Born in Kerala, South India and raised in Delhi, North India makes it very confusing to answer the question "so where are you from exactly?" .Alongside English I speak both Malayalam  and Hindi.

I was always passionate about the impact at young age and that passion pushed me to pursue the Teach for India fellowship in the year 2013. I have an MA in Development Studies from Azim Premji University, India followed by which I had a wonderful time working with Reap Benefit as a Mentor & Program Manager helping children take ownership of the problems around them and solving them using innovations .

I have been part of the Advisory Board of HundrED since June, 2020 and as an Ambassador since July, 2020.

I am passionate about Holistic Education and believe that is the only means of having an informed and strong community which will be able to make the right decisions so that the world is safe and better place to live in.

Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?

With so many challenges children facing in life and communities facing in terms of expectations from industries and conflicts in society, hundrED creates a platform for encouraging and sharing innovations in Education. Going through some of them has opened my eyes to practices around the world that I didn't even hear of and I believe many others don't. Being part of this community of educators and like minded people will help me push the envelope and bring more into the community.

Three HundrED innovations you love. (and Why?)

Reap Benefit Having worked there and seen firsthand the innovative solutions through which students solve problems proves how through a simple process and right questions & guidance Reap Benefit activates the 21st century skills of Character, Competency and Foundational Literacy.

Mein Hero Mein Hero is an interactive class based art program, where participants, through teacher facilitation, and a designed activity book create their own heroes. Creating local content is the best way to contextually have powerful impact in the community.

Cardboard challenge Focuses on creativity rather than materials but also makes sure a real interactive product is the result.  Accomplishes the first step of activating design thinking and creativity at a young age using the least materials.
