About me

I grew up on the west side of Detroit, MI in the United States. When I was in high school, I noticed that many of my friends were not given the chance to fall in love with learning, and I became frustrated with the inequality I saw around me. Since then, I have spent my entire career working towards improving how we educate kids. As the director of programs for Winning Futures, I lead all program design, implementation, and evaluation.

I received my B.A. in English Literature and Secondary Education from Wheaton College and my M.Ed in urban education from National Louis University. I currently live in Detroit. 

Before joining the non-profit world, I was a teacher. I taught 9th grade literature at Wendell Phillips Academy High School in Chicago. At Chandler Park Academy in Harper Woods, MI, I designed and taught the middle school’s reading intervention program. I also worked to bring the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program to the school, serving as the onsite coordinator and AVID teacher.

In my free time, I enjoy road trips, meeting new people, and spirited debates.
Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?

I am excited to join the HundrED Community because I am looking for ways to increase growth initiative and motivation in historically disenfranchised students. I believe the HundrED organization is doing great work in highlighting innovative solutions to education's most pervasive problems. 

How can education support students to flourish?

The goal is that students be able to think critically and freely, in order to make wise choices. Education should train them for just that. 

What role does innovation play in education change?

If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got. 


If we don't like the results of the current system, we need to be innovative in our approach.
