Sarah Kreckel

I am a former teacher, teacher trainer, and curriculum writer originally from the United States. I now live in Germany with my family and am excited to learn about school innovations!

Hi! I am dedicated to educational programs that meet the 4Cs: Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Critical Thinking. For many years in the USA I was an English and history teacher for middle school students. When I think back on those years I am sure that my classrooms were almost entirely about those 4Cs.

After leaving full time classroom teaching I worked on program management, teacher training, and curriculum design. These were also very fullfilling years.

Now I live in Germany and am learning not just about the education system here but about more innovative learning programs and projects and about the sensible incorporation of digital tools in the classroom.

I have three kids who all attended different kinds of schools. I myself have completed teaching internships in the USA, in Kenya, in Australia, and in Germany.

Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?

I look forward to finding out about exciting programs for kids worldwide, to sharing ideas with education-obsessed people, and to finding programs and ideas to bring into the German school system.

How can education support students to flourish?

Education is the foundation for enabling the development of the child. Good education allows the child to find his or her interests and strengths and to run with them. Empathic adults who serve as models for life-long learning excite children. A child's sense of belonging, of being seen, and of being respected will lead the child to explore, expand comfort zones, and flourish.

What role does innovation play in education change?

Innovation in education provides models to emulate. Not only the innovations themselves but also the fact that individuals are behind each of those innovations are inspiring. When a person sees that others have made changes, taken chances, dared to fail, and continuously improved, that person can be inspired herself to take on new challenges and make changes in her education environment.

Three HundrED innovations you love. (and Why?)

The Modern Classroom Project because it offers a personalized, differentiated learning structure which can be adapted for any classroom. Also, I love the community element of it--teachers teaching teachers.

Three innovations you would love for HundrED to know about. (and Why?)
