Hello, I'm Sara! I am 33 years old and a mother of a beautiful five years old daughter “Sofia.” I am currently working as Primary - Vice Principle in an IB School in Changzhou, China


My name is Sara; I am 33 years old and a mother of a beautiful five-year-old daughter Sofia.    

My background is mainly focusing on early childhood education and family well-being & counseling. I performed as a teacher for K12 institutions both inside and outside of Finland. I had the opportunity to work as a counselor for international organizations such as the Finnish red cross and the Arab institute for human rights. 

After finishing my bachelor's degree in Social Services and Early Childhood Education, I started a master degree in international comparative education, but as I gave birth to Sofia, I was not able to continue my degree. This year, I got accepted to start another Master’s Degree at Tampere University of Applied science (Educational Leadership).

I worked as kindergarten teacher for several years and got different professional trainings in IB education, and I am currently working as PYP (Primary Year Program) - VP (Vice Principle) in an (International Baccalaureate) school located in Changzhou - China.  

I have been following HundrED for a couple of years, and I'm deeply inspired by the way they are "unpacking" educational systems around the world. However, I believe that there is a gap between current education practices and the need of our future generations in terms of skillset and values to be taught. We must face it and make it clear, "Things are not going well!". 

The upcoming generations are already facing challenges that we, as a learning community, struggle to anticipate and synchronize.  

Education, as per the environmental and health-related issues, is global by definition. No country or population around the world can independently tackle the problem, and the reason is simple: Education impacts and consequences are universal and meaningful. Whether it would be positive or negative, education's effects are scalable and obvious.  

I am currently working for a semi-public-owned institution. Considering the local education culture (in China), our organization is actively involved in planning, hosting, and monitoring education-related events and programs as a leading actor in the area. This is a premium opportunity to Identify innovations and help them spread.    

Our school is an IB-certified school, from foundation to high school; there is a wide path for testing, iterating, and implementing innovative concepts. We have a newly established team, and we inspire to build things from scratch and leverage our existing facilities and workforce.  

As a recently nominated leader, I'm committed to making positive changes through the team I'm leading and inspire somehow to be part of a sustainable and positive impact within the organization I'm working for. 

HundrED allows me to consolidate my existing network and create new relationships with some inspiring and like-minded people worldwide.  

I passionately believe that being part of the HundreED community boosts my inspiration and make changes happen around me.  

Most of the challenges I am currently facing are related to the fact that I have some difficulties convincing my surroundings that it is still possible to "transform" education and develop critical thinking around it. There are tools for that and people who believe in this and are already committed to making change happen. Whether the Chinese education sector is highly scalable and benefits from outstanding facilities and resources, the working culture is still uncomfortable with changes and struggle to conciliate education's future challenges with past culture and traditions.

Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?

I believe that transformational change, and especially in the Education field, is a global matter. Spending efforts and energy at a local level is good but it isn't easy to sustain and scale the impact. Being part of the HundrED Community will be an opportunity to join forces with like-minded people around the world and increase the feeling of belonging to a specific and global "Challenge."

How can education support students to flourish?

Education should enable students to become economically responsible and independent, ... understand and appreciate their own cultures and to respect the diversity of others... become active and compassionate citizens... engage with the world within them as well as the world around them. What role does innovation play in education change?

It is crucial to consider innovation as one of the most reliable transformation streams. It doesn't make sense to keep trying the same tools and practices and expect different results; thus, innovation will allow us to face current issues from different perspectives and try other approaches and tools that were not considered before

Three HundrED innovations you love. (and Why?)

1 - "Roots of Empathy ": Social and emotional-based learnings are much more meaningful to be taught on a practical basis rather than in theory, especially at a young age 2 - The "Wise" concept was able to leverage one of the most attractive learning channels for young generations: VR & Gaming. 3 - The " Self-sustaining School Model" showcases that financial autonomy is feasible in education

Three innovations you would love for HundrED to know about. (and Why?)

1 - "Blueprints": I would be interested in being informed of the scalability aspect of the concept. 2 - The "Modern Classrooms Project" Can this be applied to all the subjects? Also, how can students cope with such customization after continuing their studies? 3 - "Agora": How can we make sure that students are safe and performing well considering that monitoring will require considerable effort?
