I am Binita Shrestha, an IT Engineer, STEM Educator, and working as Managing Director of Women in STEM organization. Currently, I also received the prestigious Clé de Peau Beauté Power of Radiance Award 2020 for the contributions made in STEM education for girls in Nepal. As a STEAM and data enthusiast, I am working on the momentum of breaking the existing stereotypes of our society about computing careers for girls by leading various STEAM literacy programs to reduce the noticeable gender gap. Inclining with the cause, I have overseen several successful tech philanthropic ventures, including a partnership between WiSTEM Nepal, UNICEF, and the Nepal Telecommunication Authority.
In 2015, I led Women in STEAM as a community group and later registered as a social enterprise in 2016 to break the early stereotypes and double the percentage of girls in STEM fields. Today we are nine people working full time and 60% are female employees. Through this organization, we are developing a web application to integrate all 300+ STEAM and data learning contents that we need assessed, designed, developed, and tested for 1000+ students that include 60% of girls from different socio-economic backgrounds through our skilled based training/workshops and mentorships from 9 different districts. I believe that educating girls on the STEAM approach can deliver a positive and long-lasting impact that can greatly transform an entire generation. As a social entrepreneur working for the STEAM cause for girls, I recognize plenty of ways to amplify the impacts using my area of expertise in technology and STEAM skillsets. Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?
