Access to books and other print-rich resources are leading indicators of a child’s educational success, but for the 12 million children growing up in low-income families in Uganda, books are scarce. Recent study found that in rural communities, there was only one book per 1000 children thus putting these children at a disadvantaged position from the start. I started study boosters to change this.
Study Boosters is a non-profit social enterprise founded in 2019 in Uganda with the mission of transforming lives of children in need through sustainable market driven and education centered solutions. our solutions allows children to have access to free and low cost books and tools they need to learn. We also provide educators with access to resources they need to provide quality education. Since 2019, Study Boosters has distributed more than 800000 books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income families across the country, with more than 2500 educators serving children in need. By making new, high-quality books and educational resources available on an ongoing basis, Study Boosters is transforming the lives of children in need and elevating the quality of education. We have been offering our books and materials through offline bookstore located in Kampala where eligible educators come & picks free/ low cost books and materials for their students. There is a tremendous demand that we can't satisfy with our means. We know this because in 2020, we were caught by surprise when we initially started to promote our solutions. The strategy was and still is to put stickers in public transport that reach the entire country from Kampala. We initially put 1000 stickers but we were not able to serve the immediate demands coming from educators so we had to stop awareness raising and marketing. We are creating online marketplace for offering more books at approximately $3 each. With this marketplace we expect to serve five million children in the next three years.
