JGO Scientific Learning

Step into your game with JGO

COVID has created a situation where traditional in-person teaching has been compromised, affecting the accustomed dynamics of the teaching-learning process. In order to circumvent this issue we propose utilizing Game-Based Learning theory to spark students’ attention by presenting the curriculum material in a video game format.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

The essential problem we had identified is that in the virtual learning model student’s attention has been compromised which makes the learning process more difficult and frustrating for both students and teachers, JGO SL strategy works on sparking and strengthen students’ attention by presenting the curriculum material in a video game format, boosting in the process, other essential skills.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Our strategy focuses on STEM subjects as the perception of math and sciences has traditionally being associated with difficulty and academic frustration for many students around the world. We have split the project initially into two disciplines and two levels: Freshmen college students taking introductory chemistry and middle school student taking mathematics. By using evidence-base inquiry method (Abdi 2014) embedded in a video gaming format, we anticipate that this new academic tool will allow students to interact on their own in a real- life like environment where they should identify the academic goals embedded in a real-life like situation designed for them to experience the desired theoretical concepts and utilize them to solve mathematical challenges and comprehend the real value and application of such principles.

How has it been spreading?

The work has been spread throughout academic meetings, seminars, webinars, presentations, news, tv, radio, magazines and word of mouth. JGO Scientific Learning officially started operations on Nov 26th 2020, up to today February 20th we have introduced our customized video games in New York, US, Lagos. Nigeria, Bogota Colombia, we have been in conversations with two possible business partners in India and Kenya. We have also presented the idea in Australia and we still working fearlessly on opening markets across the globe.
We see JGO Scientific Learning in the next 2 to 3 years actively engaging at least 5% of the world’s middle schoolers and teachers to make their teaching-learning process more enjoyable, productive and rewarding.
