Simon Gillow

ELT Consultant, Curriculum and Content Developer, EduTech Advisor

The past 29 years have led me on an amazing journey across many countries; starting as a classroom teacher of English and Science, I've developed my skills and experience in teacher training, EduTech, ELT project management, content development and publishing. I've worked online, offline and everywhere in between.

I've been privileged to work on a wide range of learning programmes and products for kindergarten, primary, secondary and adults, as well as teacher development and vocational training. I'm always learning, developing and working to provide the very best possible learning experiences.

Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?

My mission is to support modern learners benefit from modern solutions to education that enable them to achieve their life goals, regardless of location, financial means, gender and age.

HundrED is an organisation which seeks out innovation in education so that learners everywhere can benefit.

It's a shared mission and I am proud to play my part in uncovering creativity and innovation in Hong Kong, China and casting a spotlight on organisations who are working to enhance educational practice in our community.

How can education support students to flourish?

My area of expertise is English language teaching and learning.

English is a language that belongs to everyone. It is a way for people in every corner of our planet to communicate, learn from each other, share ideas and ultimately make the world a better place.

I believe that language education helps us understand ourselves, to appreciate the diversity of our cultures and gain new perspectives for work and life.

What role does innovation play in education change?

The world is changing at hyper speed. Technology has opened up a world of new possibilities and new directions, and also placed new demands on learners. These days, it is less about what you know today, and more about how to learn knowledge and develop skills throughout life.

It is a duty for educationalists to seek out evidence-based ways to meet the needs of modern learners, and to provide engaging and innovative learning experiences that enhance effectiveness and efficiency for life wide learning.
