Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?

I want to learn more about what other groups and countries are doing to support students in being safe online, promoting student voice, and building positive cultures online and offline.

How can education support students to flourish?

Student voice and empowerment is central to helping students flourish. Much of our work through #ICANHELP is about creating a platform for students to share their stories - students inspiring students - and work to help each other be the change they want to see online and offline.

My co-founder and I have over 20 years experience in leadership development for students ages 12-18. Change happens when students are empowerd, have a voice, and have support.

What role does innovation play in education change?

As an educator with over 15 years experience, I've learned to adapt, grow and modify how I teach to best benefit my students. How students engage with content and learning has changed drastically over the past few years, so as educators, we need to be prepared to stay ahead and grow with them.

All that said, this can be a challenge. Education is a shifting landscape featuring a wide array of skills and age ranges in the teaching staff. So, we need to be innovative and constructive in how we bring teachers along as we work on new and innovative ways to present content.

Three HundrED innovations you love. (and Why?)

Design for Change - A core value for #ICANHELP is student empowerment. Design for Change encapsulates that idea by empowering students and providing the tools and structures they need to make an impact in their community.

Instill Education - I love the commitment to a growth mindset in helping teachers become innovators and grow with their students. "Upskilling" teachers is work I can relate to (that's what I did) and love their approach to thoughtfully make that happen in South Africa.

Innovation Institute - Students solving problems, working collaboratively, and creating something that has meaning and value. If there is one skill everyone needs, it's probrem solving.
