Kamila Wujec

Warsaw, Poland

Kamila is the founder of Digit@l Friends - the first local youthhouse in Warsaw. Digit@l Friends is a place where youngsters can develop or deepen media literacy competences, yet it is a place where they can just "be". We thrive to be a place of acceptance, where young people can learn, experience holistic personal growth and develop a sense of belonging to the local community ouside their schools and homes. We want to be friends and neighbors.

Kamila is a certified Coach, Trainer and Group Dynamics Consultant. Her scientific background is in Cultural Studies. Since 2009 Kamila has been engaged in coordinating youth projects within the framework of the European Commission. In her work, she is especially interested in authentic youth leadership and its impact on society. Taking examples from Finland and Germany, in 2019 she founded the first local youthhouse in Warsaw called Digit@l Friends. Kamila is supporting individuals and groups in learning through the lense of "groups as a whole" perspective and aims to set up a Group Relations chapter in Poland that is dedicated to leadership development in organizations. In the past year Kamila actively supported social innovation projects for different organizations in Poland, Germany and Uganda.

Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?

HundrED is a fantastic organisation of people, who are passionate about education and have the ambitious goal to improve education through innovations. This can only be accomplished together. Sharing and promoting ideas of brilliant minds, who have the same goal in mind is not only rewarding, but also an honor and service to our children and future generations

How can education support students to flourish?

Janusz Korczak wrote: "Children are not the people of tomorrow, but people today. They are entitled to be taken seriously. They have a right to be treated by adults with tenderness and respect, as equals. They should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be - The unknown person inside each of them is the hope for the future." I very much share his words. Students will flourish  when they are treated with kindness, respect, acceptance and support which is available to everybody at any time.

What role does innovation play in education change?

Innovations question concepts, disrupt routines, break schemes and embrace the New. In times of rapid changes we need both, respect to what we already have and an deep understanding culture and tradition, which provide stability and a sense of security and embracing the New.  With respect to education we are not only required but also obliged to have an openness to new approaches, ideas and solutions, otherwise progress will not be possible, and not everybody will be able to benefit from the collective wisdom equally.

Three HundrED innovations you love. (and Why?)

I am a multiperspective and big-picture lover. The context is always very important. What is needed here and works well there is not always possible to combine. There are so many wonderful ideas, I could not chose only three. I love innovations that focus on supporting a positive mindset, empathy and positive self image. I also believe it is important to foster outside and nature based activities but I also value projects that focus on fostering STEAM skills, as they are prepearing our kids for the tech-based future.

Three innovations you would love for HundrED to know about. (and Why?)
