Jenny is the Head of School at Springhouse in Floyd, VA and is committed to designing and activating vitality-centered education to more courageously respond to the world's emerging needs.
Jenny holds a Ph.D. in Sustainability Education from Prescott College and a master’s degree in Social Work from Colorado State University. She is an RSA Fellow and a Country Lead for the HundrED-an international collective seeking to transform education. For the past twenty years, she has been committed to creating healthy culture by starting with an unwavering commitment to her own personal growth and transformation. As a result of her own journey with addiction and cancer, Jenny understands that a healthy relationship with the world begins with a strong connection to ourselves. In a culture that often fosters separation and disconnection, Jenny’s research, mentoring, and teaching invites people to deepen the relationship they have with themselves in order to serve the world with greater clarity, compassion, creativity, and courage. Jenny's work has taken many forms including non-profit management, trauma and hospice care, spiritual care and chaplaincy, clinical private practice, community building through the expressive arts, and educational design. She is a co-founder of Springhouse and sees community-based education as a primary agent to transform culture. She is honored to work with the outstanding Springhouse team and is deeply committed to the Springhouse mission of designing vitality-centered education and sharing the Sourced Design through Education Design Labs at Springhouse. Jenny lives on a farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains with her husband Andy and their two teenage children, Andrew and Lizzie. Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?
We are an intergenerational learning community in rural Virginia in the United States. Being a part of larger networks gives us the opportunity to share what we are learning about vitality-centered education while also learning from so many wonderful people around the world! I am grateful to serve as a Country Lead for the US with HundrED with the wonderful Nathan! Strenge! How can education support students to flourish?
Orient around life. Focus on vitality. Turn toward depth. Listen deeply to the wisdom of the moment and respond by creating emergent living designs that awaken and sustain vitality in young people and their communities. Growth is then sustainable and natural. What role does innovation play in education change?
We are generating lots of floating clouds. We need to ground our ideas so that they can change the world... Nothing changes unless it is grounded and manifested. ~ Angeles Arrien We are clear on the problems we face in education. We dream about a future that is different. It is time to dive into the messy practice of emergent living educational design.Three HundrED innovations you love. (and Why?)
The three HundrED innovations I would like to highlight are Teaching Tolerance, the Global Oneness Project, and Sourced Design. They all put vitality and freedom at the center of learning. They are unafraid of intimacy and connection and offer resources and places of practice that foster life.Three innovations you would love for HundrED to know about. (and Why?)
The three innovations I would love to share are: Education Reimagined- a powerful network in the U.S. Soul-Centered Teacher's College in Ojai, CA Youth Passageways- Youth Rites of Passage organization in the US
