Zwolle, Netherlands

Professor at the university of applied sciences in Zwolle, the Netherlands. Involved with leadership and student voice. How do we design and develop, with students, lifeworthy learning experiences and educational situations that count.

Currently I hold a position at the university of applied sciences in the Netherlands, Zwolle, Viaa, as a professor of designing good education experiences for students at the elementary age and because I work within the initial teacher trainer programs, also for students. My passion has always been the learner, its process for learning and the role of leadership that comes with that (believing everyone is a leader for learning) and the voice that each learner has within its own learning process.

Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?

Innovation is a major part of developing good educational experiences. Designing, developing and of coarse also practicing new educational programs should be a hudge role within kids learning and growing towards a great person in society. HundrED is involved with these processes and therefore I want to be involved.

How can education support students to flourish?

Education should support students in discovering who they are, who they want to become and how to reach the aspirations that students have. They need to develop skills, knowledge and experiences these within safe settings so they can learn and thrive.

What role does innovation play in education change?

Without solid innovation there is no good education.

Three HundrED innovations you love. (and Why?)

The programs designed in Helsinki because they all have to do with the 'real world' and designing and learning within the world. Student voice is an important part in all these programs of innovation.

Three innovations you would love for HundrED to know about. (and Why?)

The work that is done in Bali at the elementary school, designing and educating in live, would be something to investigate upon and share with the rest of the world.

Also the work that Porticus does for education, getting the plastic out of our cities and society.

The upcoming innovation within the initial teacher program at my own university. Designing  eduction that is based on sustainable learning environments with a new approach to curriculum design and becoming a professional within the educational field.
