She is a social impact enthusiast and Senior Communications & Advocacy Advisor with over 10 years of experience at the intersection of civil society, social entrepreneurship & social impact.

ABOUT GİZEM KENDİK ÖNDUYGU

Gizem held a variety of roles over 6 years at YADA Foundation and Active Living Association including leading project design, implementation and monitoring processes with the partnerships of UN WOMEN, World Health Organization, Ministry of National Education of Turkey, Unilever, Coca-Cola Foundation, Mercedes-Benz Türkiye, Eti and many more. During her time at the civil society sector she focused on large scale education and play programs reaching over 300K children in Turkey, sustainable city and active living programs including organizing 2 international conferences, and strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations through civil society journalism and impact communication.     

In 2017 Gizem joined the Foundation for the Support of Women’s Work & OXFAM Türkiye which empowers women in Turkey to build resilient communities, free from poverty and inequality, as Communications Coordinator. She led the foundation’s communication, public engagement, and advocacy strategies. Throughout her time at the foundation she worked on women's economic empowerment, international development, and migration, while working with the 70+ women cooperatives to drive a more impactful grassroots movement. 

In 2018, she entered the world of social entrepreneurs, starting as Communications and Advocacy Director of Toyi to support child's right to play. She supported the early stage purpose-driven social enterprise with business, communication, community engagement and advocacy strategies while creating the largest play and social impact community with over 300 advocates in Turkey. At Toyi, she led the fully funded international crowdfunding projects, built the marketing and communication team and helped them develop strategies to significantly scale their impact and improve their effectiveness, and raise angel investments.  

She has consulted to and served on the boards of a variety of nonprofit organizations, including as an advisory board member for HundrED, and co-founder of International Play Association Turkey Branch, Women Cycling Initiative, and While İstanbul Reads. She has mentored social enterprises in accelerator programs and helped them develop impact communication strategies. 

She has a special interest in how social entrepreneurs use participatory communication methods and online platforms to drive social change and, is currently developing ways of gathering and sharing knowledge in this area.
