English teacher, willing to change the system of education for the better

My name is Ekaterina Bogdanskaya. I have been working as a teacher of English for 8 years so far. I truly love my job as I enjoy working with kids and adults a lot. Since the time I came to school for the first time, many things have changed in the system of education worldwide. I am absolutely sure that we cannot and actually must not be using the same methods and approaches as our teachers used to years ago. The first reason is that our students are changing every year; they are getting more and more addicted to all sorts of gadgets, which can become our helpful friends if used wisely. Besides, the whole world is changing, thus we, the teachers, are responsible for our students’ adaptation to the realities of the modern society.

Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?

In my opinion, HundrED gives teachers from all over the world an opportunity to share their knowledge and experience. What we really lack nowadays is a chance to exchange the information about what we do in our classroom to get our students motivated. Being a HundrED Ambassador I want to help teachers in my area to find and share the most effective methods of motivating students.

How can education support students to flourish?

School is responsible for raising strong and resilient people, those, who will change the future of the whole world. For this to happen, we should start from schools. If we cannot adapt our schools to the reality, we will never be able to get a highly developed society.

What role does innovation play in education change?

In my opinion, innovations help education stay up-to-date with the reality of the modern world. The world is changing rapidly, and, since the main objective of education is to prepare the kids for their future adult life, it must give knowledge, which will be relevant and, thus, helpful. What is more important, the way we teach should also be updated due to the development of technologies.

Three HundrED innovations you love. (and Why?)

Innovation is something that comes to schools no matter whether we like it or not. In most cases innovations are introduced in the system of education by the people, who do not work at schools, their knowledge is purely theoretical and they can never predict how those innovations will actually work in the real life. What makes HundrED Innovations different, is that they are practical, they have been tested in schools, they work with students! Besides, any teacher can choose from a wide range of all sorts of innovations the ones, which will be perfect particularly for his or her students. These innovations are worth being spread.

Three innovations you would love for HundrED to know about. (and Why?)

Roots of Empathy (I think it is most important to teach kids to be tolerant and empathetic)

10 Minute Plays (it develops creative skills and helps to integrate historical knowledge with performance)

Global Oneness Project (the best one to eradicate stereotypes about other nations and countries)
