Claire, academic director of Yo Invento, a project which started in the Los Ríos region of Chile and which has grown steadily and now includes students from Argentina, Costa Rica and Guatemala
I am the Founder and Director of Yo Invento, a STEM education program in Latin America. Students are guided through the seven-step engineering design process, identifying real-world problems which they can solve with an invention, culminating in a Feria de Inventos where students pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. I am passionate about STEM education in Chile and Latin America, mentoring teachers and providing new ways to educate using technology, experimentation, global connectivity and communication. Trained as a secondary school science teacher, I am also skilled in Content and Language Intergrated Learning (CLIL) whereby students learn a given subject using a foreign language, thereby improving their language skills as tey learn content. I currently work as a consultant in CLIL at the faculty of Engineering at the Universidad Autral de Chile. Why do you want to be a part of the HundrED Community?
I love learning about what people are doing around the world. There are amazing and inspiring educational innovations going on and hundrED is an excellent way of bringing these together so that they can be shared and recognized globally. I am honored to be a part of this community and hope to learn from other community members to continue to improve and innovate my work and to inspire them, too.How can education support students to flourish?
Education is the key to a better life. Only through education can students realize their true potential and have the opportunities they need to develop their skills and abilities. There are so many inequalities throughout the world so giving students education is a step towards bridging these gaps and helping them to problem-solve when faced with the many challenges of the future. What role does innovation play in education change?
Just as life, knowledge and society evolve, so too, must education. In a changing world, the way students learn must change, too. It is fundamental that education reaches out to all students and inspires them. Innovating new teaching methods and programs is essential for fulfilling the needs of students from around the world.Three HundrED innovations you love. (and Why?)
