The House of Learning
In the future it will be invaluable for students to set goals for themselves and create their own learning paths. The House of Learning assists students by providing quality self-assessment tools. HundrED will follow the impact the House of Learning has on students’ learning outcomes in elementary school.
What are the goals you are looking to achieve with the experiment?
The House of Learning is a tool for teachers that they can use to help implement the new core curriculum into their daily classroom routines. With the help of this tool students plan, track and assess their own learning process reflecting on whether or not they have reached certain goals. One of the main objectives of the House of Learning is to teach students how to take responsibility of their own learning, which clearly has a positive impact on motivation. The House of Learning also provides continual feedback, which helps students in discovering new and more efficient ways of learning.
Why is the House of Learning useful?
In order to generate change, we need a tool to help achieve it. So far the House of Learning has received a lot of positive feedback from teachers who have felt that it has helped them let go of textbooks. The House of Learning also serves parents and guardians, as they can always check how their child is doing in school. The House of Learning enables a continuum of learning and guidance from kindergarten to middle school.
Is this a new experiment or is this based on an existing one?
The House of Learning tool has been trialed in several schools in Helsinki, Vantaa, Jyväskylä and Kempele and the development of the tool will continue.
