Student Short Film Festival
A short film festival for Finnish secondary school students which will take place during the 2016-2017 school year. Students will produce short films (maximum 5 minutes each) from selected themes. The films will be shown in theatres around Finland in the Spring of 2017 and shared online on Koulukino’s digital Kelaamo-platform.
What is the idea of the experiment?
The short film festival is an open event to all the Finnish secondary schools. The theme of the productions will be announced in the beginning of Fall after which students can individually or collaboratively create an informal, less than five minute long short film. The best films will be awarded and presented at a short film festival organised in theatres around Finland at the same time.
Is this a new experiment or is this based on an existing one?
This is a new idea with the intention of becomming an annual event and part of the school year in all Finnish secondary schools.
How will the experiment be scheduled and how will it be put into practice?
The theme will be selected and the competition announced in the start of the school year of 2016. The festival will be organised in the Spring of 2017. Participating in the competition will happen in the Fall by uploading the films onto the digital platform.
What are the goals you are looking to achieve with the experiment?
The goal of the experiment is to teach a variety of skills to students, for example in screenwriting and producing films, skills in drama, citizenship, creative thinking, storytelling, collaboration and opinion forming. The film festival will give students the opportunity to have their voices heard through audiovisual means.
